This year’s Pacific International Politics Conference took place in Taipei. As was the case with last year’s conference, the environment was remarkably collegial and supportive. Lots of familiar faces returned from last year, along with a lot of new participants whom I hope will be returning in the future.
At the end of the conference, a bunch of us visited one of Taipei’s famous night markets…
We managed not to lose anyone, although Sooyeon Kim thought she’d lost her phone on the ride over, prompting a frantic search, and some attempts at translation with a couple of the locals. Vally Koubi may also have wished she lost her sense of taste after her first experience with durian.
The night-market excursion was followed by a round (or five) of drinks at the conference hotel. In the words of Jim Vreeland, ‘We all Pink Panther’.
I’m already looking forward to next year in Singapore.
